Mark Day Takes Late Model Victory in Front of a Huge Crowd at the Motorplex
NASHVILLE, TN – After taking the past three weeks off from racing, the fans packed the grandstands for the return of NASCAR short track racing at the Fairgrounds Music City Motorplex on 103 KDF and Ken Binkley Signs Night September 22. With almost all of the point’s championships still up for grabs the drivers put on a great show for the nearly packed grandstands.
Josh Weston and Josh Adams brought the field of DryGDSI.com Late Models down to take the green flag for the one-hundred lap feature. Adams jumped out in front with Mark Day, Weston, Michael Driskell and Todd Morris on his rear bumper. Josh Byrns brought out the first caution of the night for his hard contact with the turn four outside wall. Luckily Byrns walked away unhurt. Adams remained out front on the restart with Day challenging for the lead. Day suffered a mechanical problem briefly dropping back to the fourth position, but Day’s problems were only brief and immediately began taking back the positions.
Dylan Thompson and Josh Weston got together on lap fifty-five sending both cars spinning in turn four resulting in the second caution of the night. On the restart, Shacklett went spinning into the inside wall bringing out another caution. Adams visited pit road during the caution, surrendering the lead to Day. Day led on the restart followed by Blake Williams, Morris, Mark Montgomery, Driskell and Adams. TW Fisher spun on lap ninety-four bringing out a caution and a six lap shoot-out for the checkereds. On the restart Williams jumped to the bottom of Day and the two made contact sending both cars high on the track. Adams took full advantage and dove below to both of them just before Morris went hard into the outside wall of turn two bringing out another caution. Although Morris made hard impact, he walked away unhurt. Once the race got back underway, Day lead the way and held on to pick up his ninth win of 2007. Adams finished second followed by Williams, Driskell and Montgomery. Going into the final point’s race of the season, Adams leads Day by only thirty-nine points.
Ricky Bolden and Daniel Victory brought the T-Mobile NASCAR Super Trucks down to the green flag for their seventy-five lap feature. Victory took over the top position with Bolden, Wade Buttrey, Josh Mullins and Tommy Climer close behind. On lap seventeen, Buttrey made his way around Victory, taking over the top position. While Buttrey started pulling away from the field, Victory, Mullins, Climer and John Earheart were battling door to door for second on back. A caution fell on lap forty-two when Climer spun exiting turn four. Point’s contender, Ronnie Campbell barely avoided the accident. Earheart took advantage of the caution and visited pit road to get two new tires. On the restart Buttrey remained out front with Victory, Mullins, Campbell and Bolden right behind him. Earheart was charging through the field, but ran out of time to catch the leaders. Buttrey took the win in his first start of 2007 followed by Mullins, Earheart, Victory and Campbell. Victory remains the point’s leader going into the last race but Campbell is only fourteen points back and Bolden only forty-six points back.
Eddie Taylor and Lloyd White led the NASCAR Grand National Sportsman down to the green flag for their fifty lap feature. Taylor led the way until lap four when White took over the top position. Chad Adams brought out a caution on lap nineteen when he spun in turn four. White remained out front with Michael House, Jeffery Belt, Derrick Johnson and Steve Hadley close behind. Taylor had a good run going until lap forty-two when he suffered a mechanical problem and was forced to retire. White held on to take his first victory of 2007 followed by Belt, House, Johnson and Hadley.
The Legend Semi Pro feature got underway by Josh Berry and Brandon Summers taking the green flag. Summers spun on lap one bringing out an early caution. Berry began to pull away on the restart while Chris Buttrey, Giles Martin, Timothy Mangrum and Dylan Ames battled for second position on back. Berry held on to take his seventh win of 2007 followed by Buttrey, Mangrum, Martin and Ames.
James Fowlkes and Tyler Slayden took the green flag for the Legend Pro/Masters. Fowlkes jumped out to an early lead over Rob Sanders, Tyler Cordell, Kevin Rollins and Bobby Buttrey. Sanders took over the lead on lap four. Kenny Summers brought out a caution on lap nine for a spin in turn four. Sanders held on to take his second Pro win followed by Fowlkes, Bobby Buttrey, James Mullins and Greg Spencer Sr. Mullins picked up his first Masters win of 2007.
