INDEPENDENCE, Iowa (Jan. 20) – Cam and Jodi Granger have
been awarded the contract to promote events this season at Independence
Motor Speedway.
“We’re very excited and ready to get going,”
said Granger, a former IMCA Modified and Late Model driver.
“Independence has been one of the top tracks in Iowa for
a long time and it is a special place for us and for a whole lot
of fans and racers in Northeast Iowa.”
Granger indicated that some details still needed to be worked
out with the Buchanan County Fair Board, but he had the core of
a team to run the track in place and that a schedule of events
would be released soon.
“Mike and Julie O’Connor are coming back to help
us. Mike is going to be the race director and Julie will run the
concessions. They worked in those capacities last year and I think
they did a great job,” he said. “We have already been
in contact with IMCA and secured sanctioning with them. That means
we will be running under the IMCA banner again and will be running
the same five divisions, Late Models, Modifieds, Stock Cars, Karl
chevrolet Northern Sport Mods and Hobby Stocks, that we have in
the past.”
“We’re working hard on a schedule for 2009,”
he added, “and that will be released shortly.”
Two Deery Brothers Summer Series events are already on the calendar
at Independence, for July 1 and July 16.
The Grangers are West Union residents. They’ll also utilize
the current track website, www.independencemotorspeedway.com,
to keep drivers and fans up to speed with the proceedings at Independence
Motor Speedway prior to and throughout the to and throughout the
2009 season.
