Axle Exchange gives new awards for Modified, Stock, Hobby track champs
DES MOINES, Iowa (March 6) – Axle Exchange, Inc., will give contingency awards to track champions in three divi-sions, in its inaugural season as an I.M.C.A. sponsor.
Fifty dollar product certificates from the Des Moines-based drive shaft manufacturer go to drivers finishing atop local track point standings in the Modified, Stock Car and Hobby Stock classes in 2003.
“We’ve already built a lot of drive shafts for national, regional, track and Super Nationals champions. I think we’ve been a pretty well-kept secret,” owner Pat Fagen said. “I feel I.M.C.A. is doing a good job of keeping the racer in mind and this program will be a benefit from the local to the national level.”
Axle Exchange opened in 1992 as a constant velocity axle rebuilder, serving many installers in Iowa. Its first drive shaft line was introduced the next year and they have continued doing light and heavy duty drive shaft repair as well.
“We’re a firm believer that all cars are different and we want to build a shaft that fits the needs of both the car and the customer,” said Fagen. “We’re racers ourselves, with more than 25 years’ experience, who are building products for other racers tested on our own race cars and trucks. We’ve always looked for ways to offer something new.”
“When we got into building drive shafts, we continually looked at ways to save on weight while keeping strength where it needed to be,” he continued. “Research and development produced the Fast Shaft line and now we offer a vari-ety of drive shafts that we currently ship to racers all over the United States. Axle Exchange also builds driveshafts for many of the top performance shops and all of the top chassis builders.”
The company now builds four different steel drive shafts for the Modifieds, three for Stock Cars and three for Hobby Stocks. Axle Exchange also makes four different drive shafts, steel or aluminum, for I.M.C.A. Sunoco Late Models.
A recent addition to the product line is lightweight center sections Ford 9” rear ends. Fagen also hopes to have a rental program in place this season for drivers who want to try out different rear ends before purchasing one.
“People don’t always know what gear to use and this way they don’t have to spend $400 for something that doesn’t work for them,” he said. “I think this is going to be a great opportunity for racers who are not financially gifted.”
“It continues to be a goal of I.M.C.A. to focus awards programs on our local track level. Axle Exchange approached us regarding I.M.C.A. sponsorship, and together we created a great program that does just that,” said I.M.C.A. Marketing Director Kevin Yoder. “Their focus on track champions continues to show drivers they can benefit from I.M.C.A. and its excellent sponsors no matter where they live.”
Drivers in all three classes that are part of the program must display Fast Shafts decals, included in the packet they received after applying for their new license, to be eligible for the awards.
