The word is out that Steve Carlson of West Salem, Wis., will be
returning to Hawkeye Downs Speedway as a regular competitor this
year!
Steve is the defending La Crosse Fairgrounds Speedway and Whelen
All-American Series national champion and has done his share of
traveling to race tracks all over the country.
I spoke to Tim Jacobs, who owns Dutch Mill Trucking in Sparta,
Wis., and DMT Motorsports, which fields cars driven by popular
drivers Steve Carlson, Kevin Nuttleman and Emily Sue Steck., briefly
on the phone today to ask him if what I have heard is true.
Tim said that Steve will be at the opening night race, May 2nd
at Hawkeye Downs Speedway and that he plans on competing in every
late model race there this year if finances will allow.
When I asked Tim if he would be making the trip to Hawkeye Downs
with Steve and the rest of the team on Friday nights, he stated
that he has other racing commitments on Friday nights that will
not allow him to make the weekly trip. I asked him to comment
further on that and he said “Friday nights around here is
go cart racing night with the kids!”
Now as a father of two myself, I must say there is a very wise
man!
I personally look forward to seeing Steve back racing at Hawkeye
Downs.
